A hectic start to 2010 with the first round of the Pro Tour being run on the final weekend in January at Geelong and the Victorian Open 2 just weeks later at Oakleigh meant a lot of time spent at the track in a very short space of time.
Unfortunately it's been a 'slow' start for me to this year... I ran 4th at the Pro Tour after being strong in the heat races - we just were not fast enough when it mattered in the final. Getting bad starts doesn't help either, minor detail.
But I was looking forward after that meeting as a brand new 2009 model Intrepid was waiting for me at CC Racing.
Dad and I spent the next Saturday building up the new chassis and I was keen to get it on track. I did 50 laps at Todd Rd on the Sunday (Oakleigh was closed for track prep for Victorian Open) and things seemed to be okay.
The Victorian Open was upon us ALREADY and I was equal fastest during practice. But as the weekend wore on the track got better and better we realised that our kart setup just wasn't there and we just couldn't get it right. Once again I got a shocking start in the final and fell to 2nd last - I recovered to finish 5th.
In hindsight we should have stayed in the older kart until after the Victorian Open but we were really not going to find out what the kart is like on the good track until we get to our next big meeting which will be at Canberra for Pro Tour II - which is at the end of April. So it was a painful Victorian Open but we have some good ideas of where we are headed with chassis setup. I feel that while we had the older model chassis working well i think there is a lot more in the new kart - the problem I had in the old kart is definitely gone with the new chassis so I am very encouraged by that.
Next event is the first round of the All Star Series at Todd Rd - this is also the first round of the Victorian Rotax Series which will run in conjunction with the All Star Series and also the City of Melbourne Titles. Also the plan is at this stage to dust off the Clubman and race the AKA Nationals in Clubman Heavy - that should be huge! |
